We’re Lakras, a multidisciplinary and independent art project based in Colombia (LATAM), in which we explore between friends. Lakras finds vitality within the diffuse limits between fashion-art-crafts, in order to create works and pieces for exhibition-sale or collaboration with other artistic projects.

This time, we made this Drop LAKRORBITA22 together with Ex.orbita, a friend project also based in Colombia, In this collaboration we portray the paradoxes of success and anxiety with a bit of humor. A myth where some fictional characters appear, ourselves portraying performatically how we have felt many times in the desire to produce but at the same time time in the happiness, the friendship and the archipelago that we display when creating.

We are a laboratory of modified garments, accessories, crooked fabrics, experiential pieces; non-useful objects, decorative objects and rubbish. Its question incorporates the liberation of absurd forces through intuitions that result in different amulets.

We created this recycling fantasy, which became a soap opera, love story of creatures living in this world. Where self-realization seems to make us enter certain behaviors and stereotypes…

…we live in a state of production. Goals, dreams, increase insomnia, stress and vulnerability. Sharing ideas at 2 a.m. via WhatsApp.

A myth where some fictional characters appear, ourselves portraying performatically how we have felt many times in the desire to produce but at the same time time in the happiness, the friendship and the archipelago that we display when creating.

We strive to dedícate ourselves on what we do/create and on being able to live from it even if it is difficult. We also celebrate our own imperfection in this path through the clothing; irregular shapes, big and scandalous holes, a pair of boots that emerge from the messiest moment of our rooms.

Honor a feeling of beauty by wearing it. Look for productive and decorative dimensions that occur beyond the intentions. The stains, the openings, the breaks, and in general the transformation processes of materials with which we live.

It’s question incorporates the liberation of absurd forces through intuitions that result in different amulets. Lakras insists on the processes that arise from the depths of affection, on the questions when working with others. The project insists on valuing what is made by hand, not massive productions. No garment seeks to be perfect.

Beyond being conceived only as a brand, the embodied value that it gives to its pieces transcends the ephemeral state of garments and manifests itself as something worthy of being treasured but at the same time at the time it can be forgotten… but shared.

From our context: Colombia, We can observe how discussions on sustainability and social innovation of vital urgency start to flourish and how we can start to imagine collectively alternative production systems. Lakras have been experimenting on the construction of affection networks and online/offline collective experiments that involves: upcycling, human rights, feminism, deserve well work conditions, ethical production, power distribution.

Sustainable topic, is a contradictory topic and it’s necessary to understand it’s complexity to not pass as a simple modern “green capitalist statement”. It is a path of continuous chaos and gradual learning, it how political bet there isn’t an exemption for paradoxes though. For example, I live in Latin America, the place that ends up being a garment clothes garbage point -second hand-, where the majority of the excessive consumption is in the USA and Europe.
